Maria Aguilera-Mendoza creates sculptures, wall reliefs and wearables that deal with the figure and domesticity using a restricted personal iconography that has been core to her practice for the past 25 years.
After curating over 40 exhibitions as Director of A-M Gallery, Maria returned to a studio-based practice using diverse materials: pigmented cement, linen, brass, bronze, paper, beeswax. Her organic, iconographic works mark the passing of time, memory and channeled energy - they echo the colours and textures of her urban environment, with a melancholy for the ancient.
